Company beginnings Īriba (now SAP Ariba) was founded in 1996 by Bobby Lent, Boris Putanec, Paul Touw, Rob Desantis, Ed Kinsey, Paul Hegarty, and Keith Krach on the idea of using the Internet to enable companies to facilitate and improve the procurement process, which was paper-based, labor-intensive, and inefficient for large corporations. It was acquired by German software maker SAP SE for $4.3 billion in 2012.

Improve control and compliance with tools for authoring and approving contracts, a clause library, and workflows. Enhance project management with flexible tools, such as integrated workflows, document management, and approvals. Expedite and improve the creation, monitoring, and awarding of RFI and RFP events. Manage supplier performance with a centralized information portal. Assess and qualify suppliers based on category, region, and business unit. Consolidate and streamline supplier onboarding processes, including workflows and approvals, while assessing compliance and mitigating supply risk. 
This initial implementation will set the future foundation for SAP FILO modules in the cloud. Other modules in both Ariba and Spend Management may be added at a later date. On this project we will be implementing the Supplier Lifecycle and Performance, Sourcing, and Contracts modules of Ariba. The SAP Spend Management system is composed of Ariba (source-to-pay systems), Fieldglass (external workforce management), and Concur (travel and expense management).
